The old India flag, also known as the "Mahatma Gandhi flag" or "Swaraj Flag," was designed by Pingali Venkayya and adopted by the Indian National Congress in 1921 during the Indian Independence Movement. It featured three horizontal stripes of saffron, white, and green representing courage, purity, and peace respectively. Additionally, the flag had a spinning wheel, or charkha, in the center, symbolizing self-reliance and the importance of manual labor. This flag was used as a symbol of Indian independence until the current national flag was adopted in 1947 after India gained its independence from British rule.
